Focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth Suicide
November 21, 2018

The sad and alarming rate of youth suicide in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities was a key issue raised by the delegation at the 2018 NATSICC Assembly in Perth.

 

NATSICC Youth Councilor Sabrina Ann Stevens echoed the concern of the delegation and expressed a desire to better support young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people  on their journeys. Click below for the full article.

 

 

Service to Community Award winners announced

It was heartening to receive such a large number of nominations - an indication of the wonderful work being done nationally in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ministry.

Strong Faith. Strong Youth. Strong Future. From 1- 5 October, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholics (and those working with our people) will experience the hospitality of Western Australia at the 2018 NATSICC Assembly in Perth. Keynote speakers will include Senator Pat Dodson (left), Fr Frank Brennan and Dr. Richard Walley. Presenters have been selected from around Australia, providing delegates with an insightful and inspiring collection of Workshops to enhance faith and share the positive stories.

Resource Hub

The newly created Resources hub aims to be a repository of information relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Spirituality and Catholicism.

 

Featuring a number of items that have been stored in the NATSICC archives, the resource should be useful for students, liturgists, pastoral councils and anyone wishing to learn more about Australia's first people and the Catholic Church in Australia.

The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council (NATSICC) is the peak advisory body to the Australian Catholic Bishops on issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholics.

 

There are over 120,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholics in Australia and it is the youngest and fastest demographic.
