Reconciliation - with God, with each other and with the Land.
19 - 21 April 2016

50 people working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ministry come together in Alice Springs for the first NATSICC Formation retreat to renew their spirit and receive formation of their faith. We were welcomed by local Elder Felicity Hayes and were blessed to have several other Elders share the week with us, including MK from Santa Teresa. Their wisdom and spirituality provided us with a wonderful foundation for the event.

Day 1: Recollection

Bishop Don Sproxton and WA NATSICC Councillor Shirley Quaresimin hosted the first day. We had the opportunity to distance ourselves from the stresses and challenges of everyday life and focus on our spirit through the Scriptures. Bishop Sproxton and Bishop Hurley lead two Lectio Divina sessions.

The workshops were an opportunity to listen and block out the distractions from day to day life and focus on the word of the Lord.

Day 2: Formation

Delegates took the opportunity to listen to Archbishop Christopher Prowse and Aunty Evelyn Parkin discuss symbols, rituals, mission and the sacraments from a Christian and Aboriginal viewpoint. The discussion was held in a unique format where delegates had the opportunity to be interactive and participate in the conversation.

Day 3: Pilgrimage

Hosted by John Lochowiak the pilgrimage was the ideal way to finalise the retreat. John took delegates in and around Alice Springs and visited special sites that have cultural significance to the local people. He told stories and shared experiences that gave delegates an insight into the lifestyles and culture of the Traditional Owners of the town.

It was a wonderful week and delegates went home renewed in their Faith and Spirit - ready for the challenges that may lie ahead.
